Refractive surgery is the term used to describe laser procedures or intraocular procedures that correct the power of your eye to eliminate your dependence on glasses and/or contact lenses.

Before taking up for any refractive procedure certain tests need to be carried out which include
• Confirmation of refractive error & examination of retina
• Pachymetry
• Topography
IMPORTANT POINTS TO BE NOTED
You have to be at least 18 years old. If you are approaching 40s then you need to be aware that you will require glasses for near vision. If you are in 60s then you should get a consultation by your doctor to assess if cataract surgery with lens implantation is a better option for you.
If you are suffering from glaucoma, severe dry eyes or any other ocular condition such as Keratoconus.
If you are pregnant then you should wait till 6 months after pregnancy. Autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus or multiple sclerosis, are generally considered a contraindication for LASIK, as they might prompt an unexpected response to the laser surgery. Other conditions such as type 2 diabetes do not necessarily mean that you cannot undergo surgery. However, they need to be well controlled to ensure a favorable healing situation.
It’s important for your eyesight to have stabilized for at least a year before you have laser surgery.
